Dear Students and Families,
We want to remind everyone of an important opportunity available in our district: all students can receive free breakfast and lunch every day, at no cost to families. This state-supported benefit ensures every student has access to healthy, balanced meals that support learning, well-being, and success in school.
Recently, we have noticed that some high school students are choosing to leave campus to purchase food elsewhere. This not only creates unnecessary costs for families, but many of these off-campus food options offer less nutritional value than the meals provided in our school cafeterias. We are also seeing students bring outside food back onto campus—often purchasing deli food and bringing it into the cafeteria for underclassmen or classmates.
To support equity, safety, and nutrition for all students, we will be making the following adjustments:
Beginning Wednesday, November 19:
High school students will no longer be allowed to bring purchased outside food into the cafeteria.
This has been the district’s standing expectation, and we will be returning to that practice.
We are developing a structure to ensure students remain on campus after getting their cafeteria lunch.
We have observed that some upperclassmen are taking school-provided meals to their cars. For safety reasons, we are reviewing alternatives that allow students more flexibility without compromising supervision or well-being. We will share more information as these options are finalized.
Our goal is simple: to ensure every student has access to nutritious, free meals in a safe and supportive environment. We encourage all students to take full advantage of this opportunity.
Thank you for your cooperation and partnership as we continue to promote student health, safety, and success.
Robert Elizondo
