cheese visit

The Touchet Agricultural Education program's AgXplore and Animal Science classes recently had a fantastic field trip to the Walla Walla Cheese Company! Our students got a behind-the-scenes look at how cheese is made, from milking the cows to aging the cheddar. ALL FROM LOCAL COWS!

They even got to see the cheesemaking process up close, including the incredible curd cut and the fascinating way the cheese is shaped. It was amazing to learn about the science behind cheese production and how all the steps contribute to the final delicious product.

Of course, no trip to a cheese factory is complete without some sampling! The students were treated to a variety of Walla Walla Cheese Company's award-winning ice cream and cheeses, including their famous cheese curds and Pepper Jeff Cheese. They were able to taste the difference between young curds and an aged pepperjack, and learn about the unique flavor profiles that develop over time.

This field trip was a great learning experience for our students, and it gave them a deeper appreciation for the hard work that goes into making cheese. A big thanks to the Walla Walla Cheese Company for hosting us!
