Juniors PSAT/NMSQT College Board Assessment for tomorrow, 10/15/22, has been cancelled.

This week our Touchet 3rd, 4th and 5th grade classes went on a field trip to the Mud Creek Pumpkin Field in Walla Walla. Each student picked out a pumpkin to bring home. The TSD was also given pumpkins for each of our TK-2nd Grade to take home.
The cost for each pumpkin is by donation. The Schulke Family of Walla Walla plant the pumpkins as a service project to raise funds for the Ronald McDonald House in memory of their son Cooper. The family’s goal is raise $10,000 for this charity.

Mrs. Byerley team teaching in our third grade classroom. Our students are learning to compose a 3 paragraph narrative to include the story elements of characters, setting, problem, sequence of events, solution, and conclusion. Then they are practicing typing it into a Google Doc, and learning how to use all the technology tools that will help them be successful on the SBA. Tools like tab for indenting, shift to create a capital, spell check, text to speech, and speech to text. So much learning in one simple assignment and our third graders are crushing it! Thank you Mrs. Byerley!

Touchet's Transitional Kindergarten program is off to a fantastic start. Ms. Castillo, the TK program instructor, offers our students a variety of opportunities to learn through play.
The TK program is new to the district. It is an exciting opportunity for children below the age of five to have access to high-quality early learning expenses before kindergarten. For more information on our Transitional Kinder program, please call our office!

Congratulations to the Touchet Elementary students chosen for the month of September to have lunch & ice cream with the principal.
How do students get chosen? Each month students have the opportunity to earn behavior slips by showing respect, solving problems, and/or making good decisions. The behavior slip gets put into a drawing. Students whose slips get drawn get to have lunch with the principal and receive an ice-cream treat.

Touchet Third Graders received their first delivery of free books from a Fellowship Grant through the Walla Walla Rural Library on Friday afternoon. Each month for 10 months our third graders will receive a free book to take home and our classroom will receive 10 brand new books for its library. Over the course of the year the students will each get 10 new books of their very own to keep and our classroom library will accumulate 100 additional books! Thank you Walla Walla Rural Library for your partnership to improve literacy!

Touchet School District has teamed up with Microsoft's Technology Education and Literacy in School (TEALS) Program. TEALS is a program that pairs schools with industry volunteers and proven computer science curricula. This program design is to equip our Touchet Students for future careers in computer science. We are excited to share a few pictures of the program in action - implementing lossy compression algorithms for photo files.
Our Touchet Students are using Code.org while in a Zoom Meeting learning from our volunteer computer science professionals from Seattle and Portland, while Mr. Genereux facilitates and guides the learning in the classroom.
